Tylenol, Doliprane, Dafalgan and more: paracetamol in Ireland

These brands from abroad all contain paracetamol, used for pain and fever.

In the US and Canada paracetamol is called acetaminophen. In Ireland, shops other than pharmacies can sell packs of up to 12 tablets, one pack per sale; pharmacies up to 24.

Tylenol

Sold in the US and Canada. Its active ingredient is paracetamol; in Ireland look for Panadol or Paralief, or generic paracetamol.

Doliprane

Sold in France. Its active ingredient is paracetamol; in Ireland look for Panadol or Paralief, or generic paracetamol.

Dafalgan

Sold in France, Belgium and Switzerland. Its active ingredient is paracetamol; in Ireland look for Panadol or Paralief, or generic paracetamol.

Efferalgan

Sold in France and Italy. Its active ingredient is paracetamol; in Ireland look for Panadol or Paralief, or generic paracetamol.

ben-u-ron

Sold in Germany and Portugal. Its active ingredient is paracetamol; in Ireland look for Panadol or Paralief, or generic paracetamol.

Tachipirina

Sold in Italy. Its active ingredient is paracetamol; in Ireland look for Panadol or Paralief, or generic paracetamol.

Gelocatil

Sold in Spain. Its active ingredient is paracetamol; in Ireland look for Panadol or Paralief, or generic paracetamol.

Apap

Sold in Poland. Its active ingredient is paracetamol; in Ireland look for Panadol or Paralief, or generic paracetamol.

Before you buy

This is about the plain product. Versions with extra words on the pack (PM, Night, Cold & Flu, Codeine, -D) contain other medicines too. The same active ingredient doesn't mean the same product: the strength, the other ingredients and the pack size can differ, and some packs are sold only in pharmacies. Read the leaflet, and ask a pharmacist which one is right for you, especially for children, in pregnancy or if you take other medicines.
